I have had a facebook for a while now and those who are my friends there know I have always called my two kids: boychild and girlchild. I will continue that trend here .......
Boychild is almost 20, and a police officer in the town where we have all always lived. Yesterday he participated in a 'show' for a group of kids during a field trip. They were explaining to the kids what the k-9 unit was, how they worked, etc. Boychild was in the bite suit to show how the k-9 would track, attack, etc. When the dog brought him down he landed on a curbing and dislocated his shoulder. His first on-the-job injury. Fortunately, minor.
Even minor injuries are tough on us moms though, right?
That being said, I stood in the hallway of that ER and thought back to less than two years ago when that same boychild was in a different room as a high-school senior. He was injured in a different LE incident. He was doing a ride-a-long with a city police officer when they did a uey in front of a semi. Yup. That's what I said.
He was a few days shy of 18 then. I was in my first semester of college, it was finals week. He was blessed by God to be alive. He and Josh both. He had to get a couple of staples in his head and for the first time in his LIFE spent the night in the hospital. His heart was bruised and not beating correctly and they needed to observe him. I will not lie --- that was scary. That was a long night.
That day/night rushed back to me as I stood in the same hallway, just a couple of doors down from the room he was in almost 2 yrs ago. Without a doubt - one of the scariest days of my life.
I'm so thankful for my kids. I'm so thankful for their health, well being and loving spirits.
Even though my fb is private and 99% of my photos are locked from anyone not a friend -- I always left this album unlocked. People -- wear your seat belts, place your trust in God and always be thankful for your children, your family, your life.
Life is short. Too short. Live it well.
